things to ask

In a field that has exploded over the last 10 years, it can be hard to navigate your way through the hiring process when it comes time to book your wedding photographer.  From formally trained artists who support themselves full time with their photography and business skills, to moms with cameras, and weekend warriors just trying to make a little extra money, it can be hard to tell who is the real deal from looking at just a handful of the photographers best work that is featured on their website.  Below are some questions that we think will help you make an educated decision when it comes to booking your photographer.
We would love the opportunity to sit down and visit with you over a cup of coffee or a glass of wine, and tell you our answers to these questions as we get aquainted and show you some more of our work.  Give us a call or shoot us an e-mail and we’ll schedule some time to get to know each other.

Do you have any formal training?  College degree or weekend workshops?

Can I see some full weddings that you have shot?  (this will give you a better idea of what to expect)

How did you get started in photography?

How many years have you been in business?

Are you insured?

Do you offer packages with 2 photographers?

Do you bring extra cameras for back-ups, in case something goes wrong?

Many ceremony/reception sites can be quite dark, or dimly lit, do you bring extra lighting, and or prime lenses?

Are you going to be the person that will be photographing my wedding?  (Beware of not knowing this in advance.)

Do you edit your own images, or will you be farming out the sorting/editing?

Do you design your own albums?  Do you use templates when designing them?

About how long after my wedding should I expect to see my proofs?

How many proofs should I expect from my wedding?  My engagement?  How did you come up with this number?  (Keep in mind that excessive quantity, is no substitute for quality.)

Do you travel?  If my wedding is outside of your normal shooting area, what should I expect to pay for the additional travel?

Do I have to manage my guests print orders, or do you have an online ordering system they can utilize?

Tell me about your file back-up plan or protocol.
